Nokia ad

So after seeing a certain team of creatives turn up to our London gigs on a regular basis, they had this idea of ’sticking me in the movies.’ So the idea of commissioning me to write a piece of music for the new Nokia ad was born. To the animation of two young filmakers, responsible for the recent Coldplay vid, comes my dulcit pianistic tones. Was great fun to do and even better fun to see on TV. My heartfelt sympathies go out to all of Chris Dagleys loved ones. An unbelievably tragic loss. Not only an incredible talent and a great guy, but one who possessed ‘the look’ too. All this adds up to total confusion and disbelief in my mind. Having met Chris early on in life, subsequently our paths crossed on fairly rare occasions. But whenever I heard his name or thought of him I felt a certain parallel to his life path and a pride in knowing him. Being from the same part of town added to that feeling. Last saw him a few months ago. There he was, looking and sounding as good as ever. What a shock.
The secret is out!

Radio Silence is released in Japan

Radio Silence is released in Japan on July 8th. Exclusively to Tower Records initially and then opening out to all other retailers later on. Here’s looking forward to the opportunity to tour it live over there later on in the year.

24 hours before our gig at Duc de Lombards in Paris and there has been a flurry of press activity. Including a spread in the very cool ‘Les Inrockuptibles’. (see latest pics) I’m told this is a real coup as we would have been up against Madonnaesque names for this spot! Radio play has been good too, with Radio Silence making record of the week on several stations. So if you’re in France and you’ve heard that the bird is the word, follow it up with a trip to Duc de Lombards on Thursday 24th June. We’re doing two shows, both of which are close to selling out so hurry!

As well as playing Glasgow International Jazz Festival this coming weekend, I’m also featuring as a judge for the Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year. I shall be feeling every note for the poor little mites. Here I am, calmly writing this blog and all over Scotland there are kids who can’t get a wink of sleep in anticipation; visualising the moment when they enter stage left and can’t remember how on earth to play the thing in their hand.

Ronnie Scotts in the round

Back from Algeria and one hell of an experience. We play Ronnie Scotts in London on Monday 31st May and Tuesday 1st June. As just announced in the press, we will be playing in the round. The first time the club has ever tried this. Which in simple terms means that the stage will not be the stage and the central pit in the auditorium will become the stage. The result should be one of the most involving concerts we have ever done. Hope you enjoy it.
